CANTERBURY “J” CLASS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2005

Report

Fourteen boats sailed off in the Match Racing on Saturday, May 14th, in conditions that severely tested the Skippers' abilities to sail their craft like sailplanes - wind was non-existent and it was only by the skilful exploitation of drifting thermals that the first six rounds were completed before lunch.

A stronger sou-wester sprung up after lunch and the remaining seven rounds were able to be completed by 3:00 pm.

Keith May assisted by Bruce Edgar and Rodney Beal, as OODs kept a tight reign on competitors and they must be congratulated on their course setting and efficient running of the event.

J 106, "Working Class Hero", sailed by Ian Scott took the honours for the day. Nigel Bates (J17) was second and Graham Mander (J75) took third place.

All in all - a most enjoyable day!

Saturday 21 May ~ Eighteen boats sailed off in the Fleet Racing today in a cool southerly after a very rainy morning. The OODs set a triangle/windward/leeward course and eight races were sailed. A large number of entanglements at the top mark proved the point that a significant number of us could well benefit by a visit to the opticians!

Graham Mander (J75) narrowly took first place from Ian Scott (J106) with Nigel Bates (J17) coming third.

The Over All Trophy winner was Ian Scott.

Peter Woodrow received the Handicap Trophy.

CANTERBURY “J” CLASS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2004

17th April 2004 ~ Provisional Report

The Championships were sailed at Westlake, Christchurch in very pleasant conditions with a very mild 20 degree temperature and North East breeze of around 5 - 10Kmph.

Some seventeen boats were registered and it was especially pleasing to have two Js from Nelson with us sailed by Denise Norris and Peter McNeil.

Our annual resident USA club member, John Emery, was also present and sailed J98 All Black superbly to gain equal First Place with Nigel Bates sailing Jim Dandy J17. However on countback All Black lost out to Jim Dandy.

Nigel was the overall winner with first places in both the Match Racing and in the Fleet Racing.

Norm Hill sailed J101 consistantly well and well earned the Handicap Trophy.

Hopefully more detailed results and commentary will be added to this page shortly.
